The Worshipful Master, Brother Wardens and Brethren of The Mike Hailwood Lodge No 9839 would like to extend to you a very warm welcome to their website.
Mike Hailwood Lodge meets at Rugby Masonic Hall, Church walk, Rugby, CV21 3AT - if you don't know where that is check out the Google map in the directions link in the main menu.
"A little bit of history": the Lodge was formed in commemoration of the Motor Cycling Legend Mike Hailwood; the name is synonymous with the sport. "You don't have to be a biker but it helps".
The Mike Hailwood Lodge No 9839 is sponsored by The Lodge of Rectitude No 502 of the same Province. The Lodge was consecrated by the Provincial Grand Master, RW Michael J Price CBE, in a full Main Temple at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday 25 April 2008, assisted by the Provincial Wardens and other acting Provincial Officers. Michael Adams was the first Master and he was installed by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master VW Bro Alan J Wellan.
We meet on the second Saturday of January, the first Saturday of June and the first Saturday of September. Due to high demand for joining we will be looking for special dispensations for extra meetings for initiates.
There were 31 founding members, and we're pleased to see that our numbers continue to increase, with both joining members and Initiates from far and wide (including the Isle of Man!).
Our first Initiate was David Hailwood, the son of the late Mike Hailwood after whom the Lodge has been named, and David's Masonic journey is now underway. In fact we held an Emergency Meeting in September 2009 for part of David's progress - but with a difference - we held it at Douglas on Isle of Man. We won't be visiting Isle of Man every year, but have strong bonds of friendship and shared interest with Masons and their Lodges 'on the Island', where Mike Hailwood enjoyed so much racing success.
This is a daylight Lodge and following the Lodge meeting, the members of and visitors to the Lodge enjoy a formal luncheon (or festive board) in the dining rooms within the Rugby Masonic Hall building. "A bike ride will be available for all those that wish to do the right thing”.
As well as joy, we also suffered sadness in our first year, with the untimely death of W Bro John Maris, immediately following his confirmation as Master Elect for 2009. With Michael Adams, John was a founding force behind the idea and conception of the Lodge, and he is missed by us all. However, we're sure that John would be proud of our progress.
On Saturday, 9th January 2010, Bro. Tim Carter was installed as the second Master of the Lodge. We look forward to an exciting and rewarding year with W. Bro. Tim in the Chair.
On Saturday, 6th March 2010, our Lodge Banner was dedicated.
We hope that the site will be of great interest to Lodge visitors, and that it will inspire visitors to enquire further.
